The Monastery of S.Maria of Purity was the latest monastery papal cloister in the Diocese of Nocera dé Pagani that took the name of S.Maria della Purità by a beautiful image on canvas of the School of Murillo, came as a gift from the Vicerè of Naples Fernando Gioacchino Fajardo, Marquis of Los Velez, representing the Madonna and Child, which dominates on the high altar, as the glorious memories that preserves its first residential, lived with a reputation for holiness.

Since of the origin of the Monastery, Sisters venerated a seventeenth-century wooden statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague. The sacred image had been donated to the Prioress, Mother Giuseppa, the Marchesina Angelica of the Principles of Family Gerace, while he was recovering nell'Ospedale of Naples, with the promise that was exposed to Church to worship of the faithful. The Sisters, favoring the will of the Marchesina, placed in the veneration of the Infant Jesus statue in a canopy on the left, into the Church.

After the departure of the Sisters of Pagani August 19 1976, Mons.Jolando Nuzzo f.m., Bishop of Nocera Dei Pagani, expressed desire for the nuns, gave the Church and Monastery at Pia suffering people Jesus.

Today, the monastery attached to the Church, elevated to the dignity of the Sanctuary of the Infant Jesus of Prague, is an Artistic-Architectural and Historical Monumental Complex, used as a Center for Spirituality and Religious Tourism and Hospitality, and Head of the Opera.

On 7 May 1983, during the celebration of the centenary of the arrival of picture Madonna of Purity, Ven.le the Holy Father John Paul II was crowned "Nomine at Auctoritate Summi Pontificis" the sacred image of Madonna of Purity, which currently , enthroned on the high altar of the Church.

The 23 June 1999, the seventeenth-century wooden image of the Child Jesus of Prague was crowned by Pope John Paul II, on the application of our Ecc.mo Bishop, Mons.Gioacchino Illiano. Back from Rome, the Christ child received by the Mayor, at Palazzo San Carlo, the Keys of the City of Pagani.

The beautiful Church, the prelude to the baroque, built over the chapel dedicated to SS. The Monastery has a rectangular building with the Cloister at the center and the Church set against a side of the square, surrounded by a large and thriving citrus grove. On the ground floor there are rooms for meetings, chapel, kitchen, dining and laundry.

How to get there

The Monastery of S. Maria della Purità is possible to get there by public motor vehicle (CSTP and FFSS) and by private car; Pagani is closed to both Naples and Salerno through two motorways:

- the Naples-Salerno (A3) and the Caserta
-Salerno (A30) exit to tollhouse Nocera-Pagani.

The Monumental of S.Maria della Purità is of rectangular form and it include a beautiful church that prelude to baroque , today sanctuary of Child Jesus of Prague and a simple but artistic cloister in the middle. The whole complex, surrounded by a flourishing citrus fruits, is a garden oasis, where the spirit is driven to the contemplation of God.
